Studying God's Word
Our desire is that every believer would not just attend church, but also hear from God daily through His Word. As we read the Bible, we begin to see how God responds to things. Doing daily devotions reshapes the way we think, transforms our spirit, and helps us become more like Jesus. We encourage people to use a simple approach to studying the Scripture that we call S.O.A.P. The acronym stands for (Scripture, Observation, Application and Prayer).
Here’s how it works: Pick a time and a place where you read God’s Word on a regular basis. When you’re done reading, look at the verse or verses that particularly spoke to you. What do you think the Holy Spirit is saying to you in that passage? Personalize what you have read by asking yourself how it applies to your life right now. Then spend a moment praying over that piece of Scripture. This can be as simple as asking God to help you use this scripture, or even a prayer for a greater insight on what He may be revealing to you. I would also encourage you to journal your thoughts. Journaling is a simple and excellent way to both record and process what God has spoken to you. It’s also a useful tool to use later when you want to reflect on and review some of the “gems” that you have received while studying His Word. Without writing them down, you may forget those blessings and important revelations. If you are new to studying the Bible, a great place to begin is in the New Testament book of John.
